Why some attachments migrate as links

Relevant toAll plans

DatMig migrates your attachments to the target. In a few cases an attachment migrates across as a link instead of a file; this is expected, and here is why.

Common reasons

  • External links: an “attachment” that was already just a URL, for example a Google Drive or Dropbox link, cannot be migrated as a file, so it is preserved as a link in the respective object.
  • Size caps: some target platforms have file upload size restrictions in their API. E.g: Airtable caps uploads at 5 MB, so larger files are migrated as links to the target.
  • Permissions: sometimes the source platform API will not allow a file to be streamed. In such cases, just the file link is migrated, so you never lose the reference to the attachment.

What to do

Linked files are listed on the respective object in target. If you need the actual file, download it from the source and re-attach it manually.
