Dealing with API rate limits
Relevant toAll plans
Every platform limits how many API calls it will accept per minute. On large migrations DatMig can bump into those limits, which can show up as failures during the migration. The query delay setting is how you smooth this out.
The query delay
- In each migration's Map step, there's an API Query delay setting. This setting lets you add a short pause between API calls. A higher delay means fewer calls per minute and a lower probability of rate-limit errors.
- The default Query delay value is 1, and it suits most migrations; raise it and retry failures if you see rate-limit errors, especially on very large migrations.
Tips
- You can reduce the Query delay value to 0.5 for a quicker migrations, however don't make it 0. You'll most certainly encounter API rate limit errors from your source and target platforms in that case.
